Taiz – Yemen
CHR has announced, today, about the rapid needs of Taiz governorate (Details with Numbers) for 2017, and submitted to the Supreme Committee for International Aid in Yemen, donors, international and humanitarian organizations in 2nd of Feb.
CHR said that such lunching of needs of the governorate just came after conducting tens of workshops, forums and sessions with specialized characters in all governmental and private sectors besides NGOs, associations and national institutions since Oct 2016.
These needs, which were announced, summed up to thirteen scopes which are: Nutrition – Health – WASH – Shelter – Food Security – Protection – Environment – Education (Higher, Technical and Public) – Woman and Child – Capacity-Buildings – Care (handicapped and elderlies) – Sustainability Development Projects – Small Enterprises.
This report indicates that the Coalition has different activities proposals to be conducted regarding each field already mentioned above besides effective mechanisms for all districts of the governorate along with full and updated database for all categories and beneficiaries.
CHR clarified that the monthly amount of needs for households in all the districts of Taiz about 500,000 food baskets for 500,000 households with a sum of 64 Billion YER which is about 305 million USD in order to be settled. Furthermore, the monthly needs of hot males are about 200 thousands for 200 thousands of individuals; while, 40,000 households in need for dates and 100,000 households in need for meat.
Regarding health, hospitals and health centers in the governorate needs medical aid with an amount of 10 billion YER which is about 48 million USD; whereas, about 5000 individuals need different health awareness programs with an amount of 15 million YER which is about 71,000 USD. This is to say that the total cost of awareness and health training programs are about 23,841,546,960 YER equals about 113,531,176 USD.
The medical projects include supply of hospitals and health centers with medicaments and necessary medical supplies; rehabilitation of important departments damaged during the war and function them; creation of mobile clinics in rural areas and conduct of different health awareness programs and trainings regarding environment preserve.
CHR has mentioned in his announcement that about 50,000 households inside the governorate in a big need to good drinking-water; while, 100,000 households in need to using-water in several districts besides about 70,000 households in need to function wells and water networks inside the city.
Regarding shelter, about 98,000 displaced-households need NFI, mobile water-tanks, temporary WCs; whereas, about 29,950 displaced-households need to enterprises-projects support (livelihoods) to enable them of self-sufficiency.
Regarding food security, about 20,000 households need for a support of loans and provision with different agricultural supplies, cash for work projects, cash transfers and consultancy and agriculture instructions.
The Coalition of Humanitarian Relief included in its report that about 6250 individuals needed various of trainings and programs on protection field (Psychology, Mines Awareness, First Aid…etc.) besides trainings in life-skills and reproductive health.
The total cost of the governorate need regarding sanitation is about 1,073,238 USD for a year divided into hygiene and cleanliness projects, maintenance, equipment and special canters and fighting epidemics and insects project.
About 3075 individuals need to capacity-buildings in NGOs and institutions besides human rights programs.
Regarding the situation of Education and its needs in Taiz, CHR has conducted a survey in cooperation with governmental and national institutions for three categories; Technical Education, Higher Education and Public Education).
These educational institutions, therefore, need for about 406 projects and programs to be supported and rehabilitated due to damages happened during the war. These projects have been raised by all the educational institutions of the governorate districts to CHR according to each institution needs.
Regarding woman and a child, they also need special and particular needs such as; economy empowering, gender-violation programs, care for mother & a child, support for motherhood and childhood centers besides their needs for nutrition, food, protection, medicaments and trainings on save childhood of being used and employment.
Regarding care, about 21250 orphans and handicapped, education-seekers, widows and elderlies and youth need support and cultivation besides their need to be enrolled in economic empowering programs and supported with financial program monthly.
At the end of the report, CHR talked about the sustainable projects, such as; reconstruction projects for facilities damaged during the war in the governorate (governmental facilities, universities and colleges, hospitals, schools, mosques) as their costs were about 12,117,859 USD.
CHR mentioned that it raised a rapid needs report to the governorate through the Supreme Committee for Relief, represented by its chairman Mr. Abdulraqeeb Fatah, the minister of local council administration, to the local council of Taiz governorate and to all humanitarian and relief INGOs.
The Coalition of Humanitarian Relief renovates its call and appeals to the government and all INGOs to respond rapidly and make possible solutions to the citizens of Taiz by ending the conflict and sending relief and humanitarian aid to them.
The Coalition of Humanitarian Relief warns in case of the continuity of ignoring such appeals and relief and humanitarian needs in which it threatens the city with famine and different epidemics outbreak due to the ongoing war since Mar 2015.
